The Lakeland Church Position on Marriage and the Family In light of the recent decision by the US Supreme Court, The Lakeland Church believes it is important that we make our position on marriage well known, and so we have placed it prominently on a page of its own of our web site. The Lakeland Church believes that we should obey God rather than man in areas where the laws of the land differ from the Law of God. And so we affirm the following statements relative to marriage and the home. The Lakeland Church believes the home was the first institution God provided for man (Genesis 2:12-24), and that marriage is a sacred relationship between three parties, these being God, the Husband and the Wife. Further, marriage is honorable for all (Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:2) and marriage is emblematic of the union of Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:21-23). "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."(Mark 10:9) The Lakeland Church believes that mixed marriages between believers and unbelievers are to be avoided (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1), therefore Elder Henderson, Pastor of The Lakeland Church will only solemnize marriages between two believing and baptized members of The Lakeland Church, and/or a church of like faith and practice. And then only after the couple has completed marriage counseling supervised by their pastor. This includes, but is not limited to, studying Pastor Henderson’s series on Christian Marriage. The Lakeland Church believes that God has commanded that no one should engage in intimate sexual activity outside of marriage, which is a union between a man and a woman and God.The Lakeland Church further believes that any form of fornication, adultery, pornography, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest and pedophilia are sinful perversions of the gift of sex given to married couples by God. The Lakeland Church believes that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman for life.
